EMDR

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and reprocessing. It can be a rapid and effective treatment for traumatic distress. It incorporates elements of cognitive behaviour therapy with bilateral eye movements or other forms of rhythmic, left-right stimulation.

During EMDR a client will be asked to think or talk about memories or emotions related to a trauma, and at the same time the eyes will remain focused on the therapist’s finger as it moves back and forth across the client’s field of vision.

Clinicians undertake specific training to be accredited to practice using EMDR. All Bridge psychologists have EMDR skills.
